Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023, in Woodlawn Cemetery for Walter Shelby Pittman Jr., 89, of Foxworth, who passed from this life into God’s presence on Saturday, July 15. Rev. Tom Thurman officiated at the services.
He was born in Foxworth to Walter S. Pittman Sr. and Anna Mae Thornhill Pittman and remained a lifelong resident of Foxworth. He spent his career as a driller in the oil field and retired to raise goats on his farm. When not working, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. He was a man of faith and served his community and his Lord through his longtime membership with First Baptist Church in Columbia. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was devoted to his family. He was very generous with his time and will be remembered for always helping anyone who had a need.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Robertson and Sue McRae; a brother, Ben Pittman; and a great-granddaughter, Breanne Pittman.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Pittman; three daughters, Sheila Miller (Dale) of Franklinton, La., Sherie Burke (Kevin) of Ponchatoula, La., and Cassondra Corkern (Timothy) of Newton, Texas; three sons, Drew Pittman (Gwen) and Bruce Pittman (Lisa), both of Franklinton, La., and Carl Eldon Barnhart Jr. of Foxworth; two sisters, Tiny Dyess and Jan Mosley (Richard); a brother, Ken Pittman (Debra); 12 grandchildren, Guy Miller (Amanda), Autumn Bryant (Chad), Patrick Burke (Kim), Emily Hillis (Everett), Ian Burke (Jamie), Heath Pittman (Brittany), Kallie Armstrong (Blake), Shalon Breland (Adam), Micah Pittman, Christina Deshotels (Brant), Hilary Anne Gonagunta (Vinay) and Alison Corkern; and 22 great-grandchildren.
