Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at Brushy Creek Baptist Church for Dennis Ray Thornhill, 74, of Columbia, who passed away on Sunday, Nov. 26, in Columbia. Burial followed in New Brushy Creek Cemetery. Bro. Douglas Barber officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Hathorn Funeral Home and from noon until the time of the services on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Brushy Creek Baptist Church.
As a long-time resident of Marion County, Dennis loved hunting and fishing. He spent his working life as a truck driver. He was fun-loving with a great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Mattie Thornhill; wife, Patsy Thornhill; two step-sons, Denny Smith and Richard Smith; one sister, Gwen Raynes, and one brother, R.W. Thornhill.
Survivors include his two sons, Danny Thornhill and Shawn Thornhill, both of Foxworth; one step-son, Victor Smith (Tif) of Montgomery, Ala.; three sisters, Donnis Hall and Martha Bullock (Joe), both of Columbia and Faye Wilson (Jimmy) of Florence; one grandchild, Cassy Sistrunk (L.T.) of Columbia; two great-grandchildren, Kade Sistrunk and Hadleigh Sistrunk, both of Columbia; six step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Eddie Raynes, Larry Engelhardt, Ricky Townsend, Joe Bullock, Jeff Williamson, Oscar Kemp and Scott Hall.
