Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Elbie W. Oglesbee Jr., 80, of Columbia, who passed away on Monday, Sept. 4, in Columbia. Interment followed in Old Brushy Creek Cemetery. Bro. Douglas Barber officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until the time of the services on Thursday, Sept. 7, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
He worked up to his 70th birthday as a High Voltage Line Man with Mississippi Power and various other companies. He loved to shrimp, fish and enjoyed working the land with equipment.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbie W. Sr. and Bernice Oglesbee, his wife, Clara Leigh Oglesbee and three sisters, Brenda Bullock, Ramona Housley and Billie Sue Morgan.
Survivors include his three sons, Jeff Oglesbee (Shelly) of Carriere, Nolan Oglesbee and Richard Oglesbee (Wanda Nell), both of Columbia; five sisters, Sarah Dypsky (Clifford) of Ocean City, Md., Rosemary Sullivan (Gary) of Sumrall, Pat Lowe of Texas and Virginia Bullock (Raymond) and Betty Carol Oglesbee, both of Columbia; one brother, Dan Oglesbee (Charlotte) of Jackson and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
