Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, at Baylis Chapel United Methodist Church for Mary Cornelia Smith Bond, 91, of Columbia, who died peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 2, in Columbia. Interment followed in Baylis Chapel Cemetery. The Rev. David Young officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4, at Baylis Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was the oldest daughter of six children born to Langdon and Lucille Smith. She was a graduate of Columbia High School and a retiree of the Mississippi Department of Human Services. An active member of Baylis Chapel and Chapel of the Cross United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading and collecting photos.
Married to the late Darvin W. Bond, she was mother to three: Archie Bond (Kathleen) of Bay St. Louis, Connie Ball (Wayne), and Sharon Broom (Jackie), both of Columbia. To her eight grandchildren, she was Friday night sleepovers, long nature walks, history lessons and creek side picnics. Her grandchildren are Phillip Ball, Ricky Broom, Laurie Morrow, Kelli Robbins, Bethany Simmons, Melissa Tolar and Nathan Broom, all of Columbia and Rebecca Seall of Brandon. She was the great-grandmother to 17 and a sister to Julia Margaret Anderson of Purvis. Also preceding her in death were her four brothers, James, William, Edwin and Robert Smith, all of Columbia.
Pallbearers were Phillip Ball, Ricky Broom, Nathan Broom, Andy Robbins, Will Simmons, Trent Tolar, Stephen Ball, Tyler Broom, Drew Robbins and Ethan Simmons. Honorary pallbearers were Darrin Robbins, Andrew Ball, Blaine Morrow, Cooper Morrow and Owen Simmons.
