Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, at Good Hope Baptist Church for Horace Edward English, 81, of Columbia, who passed away on Friday, Dec. 1, in Hattiesburg. Burial followed in Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Justin Cameron officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, at Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia.
As a long-time resident of Marion County, Horace was a Deacon and faithful member of Good Hope Baptist Church. He was presently serving as a Board Member for Farm Bureau Insurance of Marion County and the Marion County Soil Conservation. As a cattle farmer, he was a long-time member of the Cattleman's Association. He was a faithful supporter of Columbia Academy. He was known by everyone as a hard worker, someone who loved sports and cooking and eating fish. His proudest achievement was his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. William Thomas and Lula Mae English; brother, Billy Ray English, and his father-in-law, Vester Haddox.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Moree English of Columbia; two daughters, Faye Pittman (Randy) of Brandon and Angela Smith (Darren) of Columbia; two sons, Edward English (Lynn) and Neal English (Andrea), both of Columbia; one brother, Hollis English (Kay) of Oak Vale; two sisters, Mary Lou Meitzler (Jimmy) of Picayune and Martha Helen Sumrall of Laurel; one sister-in-law, Alice English; mother-in-law, Letha Haddox of Columbia; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tucker English, Warren English, Ryan English, Lee Pittman, Ross Pittman, Lane Smith and Jace Smith. Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons of Good Hope Baptist Church.
