Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at Hathorn Funeral Home for John Wesley McNease, 78, of Columbia, who passed away on Friday, Aug. 11, in Buford, Ga. Interment followed in Society Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
As a lifetime resident of Marion County, he was a retired oil field worker. He owned a trucking company and his passion was driving a truck. He loved fishing and striking up conversation with anyone that would listen. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ruby Nell McNease; parents, R.D. and Johnnie McNease; two sons, John Dewayne McNease and Jimmy Dale McNease; three brothers, Pete McNease, Hubert McNease and Billy McNease and one sister, Ollie May Robbins.
Survivors include his son, Gary McNease (Sandra) of Buford, Ga.; one brother, Joe McNease (Ollie) of Columbia; one sister, Shirley Dyess (Sonny) of Columbia; four grandchildren, Zackary McNease of Wiggins, Tyler Taggert of Virginia Beach, Va., Tanya Hartsell (Jeremy) and Joni Bivens (Drew), both of Buford, Ga. and three great-grandchildren, Ziva McNease, Dany Hartsell and Eden Bivens, all of Buford, Ga.
