Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Shirley Mae Cox, 93, of Foxworth, who passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, in Hattiesburg. Burial followed in Lott Cemetery in Foxworth. Bro. Hiram Campbell and Bro. Brad Ford officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until the time of the services on Saturday, Feb. 10, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
As a long-time resident of Marion County, Shirley retired from Pioneer Aerospace in the late 1980s. She was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church in Foxworth. She was a member and served as president of the VFW. After retirement, she spent time working in the gift shop at Marion County Hospital. She loved sewing, quilting, cats, flowers, gardening and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellie and Bertha Glisson; two sons, Jerry Powell and Ricky Cox; two daughters, Brenda Gayle Lott and Blanche Cox; three brothers, James Glisson, J.B. Glisson and Hulon Glisson; two sisters, Grace Cox and Opal Dilmore; one son-in-law, Joe Burke, and one grandchild, Justin Cox.
Survivors include her daughter, Pat Burke; 10 grandchildren, Christopher Powell (Suzanne), Jerry Wayne Powell (Martha), Cami Cox, Shayne Lowery (Kathryn), Suzanne Cox, Shae Lowery (Jennifer), Tish Lott (Elias), Josh Lott, Adam Burke (Kim) and Heather Carty; 16 great-grandchildren, Shana Forbes (Hunter), Chaz Powell (Lindsey), Kristian Bansbach, Ryan Stringer, Abby Raye Lowery, Brandon Temple (Courtney), Jordan Rodriguez, Jacob Rodriguez, Payton Burke, Jackson Burke, Cooper Burke, Mason Burke, Korinn Lowery, Klaudia Lowery, Eli Lowery and McKenzie Woods; six great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Shayne Lowery, Shae Lowery, Christopher Powell, Jerry Wayne Powell, Jacob Rodriguez, Adam Burke, Ryan Stringer and Eli Lowery.
