William Lewis Cox was a man who loved God, his family, especially his wife of 50 years, and trucking. He lived his days out in Foxworth surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born in Stone Mountain, Ga., on Oct. 9, 1943, to Edward and Geraldine Cox. He was an active member of Dexter Pentecostal Church in Tylertown and served as the church’s head usher, a job he enjoyed to the fullest. His goal was to make the last mile home. He was also a truck driver for 47 years. In his last days, he could be heard getting his loads in order, finding the town he was delivering to and even asking the family to call his boss, Josh, so he could get those big wheels rolling. I guess you could say he worked until the very end.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine Faulk; father and mother, Edward and Thelma Cox; father-in-law and mothers-in-law, Buford and Lucy Brister and Alma Brister; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Gene Cox and Sammy Cox, and two sisters, Mary and Frances.
Survivors include his loving wife, Linda B. Cox; one daughter, Shonya Creel; two sons, Greg Cox (Charlotte), Reginald Cox (Sandra); one extended daughter and son, Amanda and Bryan Terrell; three brothers, Sonny Cox (Judy), Bobby Cox (Ann), Robert Carlisle (Beth); four sisters, Betty Keith, Jannette Harp, Doris Roelofs and Ann Williams; sisters-in-law, Ann Cox and Sandra Cox; brother-in-law, Jerry, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Connor Brady, Blake Cox, Rylan Creel, Creston Creel, Bryan Terrell, Darron Terrell and Benjamin Cox. Honorary pallbearers were the usher department of Dexter Pentecostal Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dexter Pentecostal Church building fund.
Hartman Jones Funeral Home will direct the services.
