Coming off a solid showing in the East Marion Holiday Classic with a big win over their cross-town rival, the Wildcats didn’t fare quite as well in the McComb Holiday Tournament against a pair of bigger schools.
Columbia (3-11) played Dec. 27 against the host school, McComb, and found itself in a 23-5 hole after just the first quarter. While the Wildcats played the Tigers nearly even the rest of the way, the deficit was too much to overcome in a 68-48 loss.
It didn’t get any easier the next night for Columbia while taking on one of the better Class 6A programs in the state. Terry jumped on the Wildcats early as well and held on for a 66-46 win. Head coach Charlie James could not be reached for comment.
The Wildcats began Region 8-3A play Tuesday night at home against Jeff Davis County, who is one of the favorites to win the district, but results were unavailable at press time. Columbia will have a full week off before returning to the court Monday at home against Tylertown.
