The Columbia Duckworth 8u all-stars swept the competition in their district tournament in Lumberton June 21 and June 22 and are heading to the state tournament.
The all-star squad will head to Hattiesburg July 5 through July 7 for the state tournament.
Duckworth began play June 21 against McNeill and trailed 9-5 going into the final half inning. But Duckworth rallied to score five runs in the bottom of the fifth to win 10-9 and advance to the next round.
The all-stars’ second game was much smoother as Duckworth cruised to a 19-1 victory June 22 to reach the championship against Poplarville.
Poplarville jumped out to an early 4-2 lead in the first inning, but Duckworth rallied back to win the District 2 title 18-8.
Duckworth 8u includes Adonijah Evans, Kaven Bridges, Avion Lewis, Donte Lewis, Nylan Nelson, Zachariah Swarptue, Jayven Wilks, Latrell Jones, Mason Abram, Zachary Franklin and Jadan Bolton.
