Ball indicted in June 2019 Popetown murder

Gerrod Duane Ball was indicted by the Marion County Grand Jury for the June 11, 2019 murder in Popetown. Ball was charged for allegedly killing Jaron Demont Burton.
Ball is currently out of jail on a $460,000 bond. Ball has also been charged with allegedly breaking and entering the inner door of a dwelling.

Easterlings earn Yard of the Month

Jeff and Judy Easterling of Morgantown were awarded the Yard of the Month for August.
Their home, situated on Mississippi 587, features flowers and plants of all assortments from impatiens to hibiscus to banana trees. Judy Easterling makes it a point to have plants blooming all year long. Her love of plants she said came from her mother.

Columbia School District began their school year on Thursday. Starting the day off was a parade of seniors. The seniors traveled along Main Street to Broad Street to Columbia High School.

County Schools change start date again

The Marion County School Board voted unanimously Thursday morning to push back the start date once again to Monday, Aug. 17. The motion was made by board member Wendy Hammonds and seconded by board member Larry Jenkins.
Marion County Schools were originally scheduled to begin Aug. 6, but was postponed until Aug. 10.
