Census forms now available online

While the world is focused on the coronavirus, the United States and Marion County in particular have something else going on which is also important: the U.S. census.

The census has done every 10 years since 1790 in accordance with the Constitution, and results from the count determine how federal dollars are divided.

Quiet weekend as isolation begins

Officials in Columbia and Marion County reported a relatively quiet weekend as shelter-in-place restrictions ordered by Gov. Tate Reeves began at 5 p.m. Friday. Marion County Sheriff Berkley Hall and Columbia Police Chief Michael Kelly said the majority of the people followed the governor's order and stayed home.

County cases increase to 13

Confirmed cases of the coronavirus are rapidly increasing in Mississippi, including five new cases in Marion County reported on Tuesday.

Across the state there are a total of 1,915, including 13 in Marion County, and a total of 59 deaths as of press-time Tuesday. That is an increase of 738 cases since the numbers were released Friday.
