Willis receives life sentence

Friday morning Handy Anthony Willis Jr. was sentenced to life in prison for the first-degree murder of Tamaneka Alexander. Alexander was shot on Oct. 6, 2017, on Water Valley Road in Foxworth while her five young children were at home. The jury found him guilty of murder on April 15.

A new deputy in town

Attempt to introduce contraband to jail: Failed

A Jasper County man faces charges after he and a juvenile attempted to throw contraband over the fence into the Marion County Jail on Thursday.
Henry Hamilton, 26, of Bay Springs, was arrested Thursday and charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and introduction/possession of contraband in a correctional facility.

Board continues superintendent search

Marion County School Board President Larry Jenkins gave an update Monday night on the search for a new superintendent to replace current superintendent Wendy Bracey. The latter is retiring at the end of the school year on June 30.
“I would like to do some public information sharing,” Jenkins said about the update.
