Property owners deserve voice in city

Multiple property owners have bemoaned a situation to me they consider “taxation without representation.” They have businesses or land within Columbia but don’t live inside the city limits. That means they pay property taxes but don’t get a choice in electing the aldermen who set those taxes.

Duff Capital Investors named business of year

Duff Capital Investors was recognized as the 2018 Business of the Year during the Marion County Development Partnership’s 112th annual banquet Tuesday.

The firm owned by Columbia natives Tommy and Jim Duff includes 12 companies, seven of which are based in Marion County. They employ 631 people locally with a $20 million payroll.
