Newton County Heritage Festival
Join us in celebrating our community at the 4th Annual Newton County Heritage Festival at the Newton County Alternative School (273 10th Avenue in Decatur) on Saturday, April 4, from 12-4 p.m. There will be activities for all ages: Inflatable jumpers and an Easter Basket giveaway for the kids, a 5K Run/walk, Cornhole Tournament, and Easter Egg Hunt. There will also be vendors offering everything from food to arts & crafts. Latisha & Friends will be our live entertainment between 2-4 p.m.

Services for Mr. Michael Hunter Vance were held 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Lucern Congregational Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Bro. Jimmy Holder, Bro. Howell Thrash, Bro. Rusty Walton, Bro. Jeff Hall and Bro. Billy Martin officiated.
Visitation was held 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Milling Funeral Home of Union.
Visitation was also held 30 minutes prior to services at Lucern Congregational Methodist Church on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

Nancy Ponder Brand died peacefully on March 28, 2026. She joyfully entered the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who was the centerpiece of her life. Her deep faith and trust in Jesus defined her days and touched everyone she knew.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, April 7, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Newton, Mississippi, with visitation at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at the Newton Masonic Cemetery.

Ms. Tanesha Renay Wilkins, affectionately known as “Sissy” was born February 25, 1994, in Lauderdale, Mississippi to Teresa Wilkins and Henry Townsend, Jr.
She attended Newton High School, where she proudly graduated in 2013. Tanesha was later employed with Tyson Foods, where she worked diligently.
