Once again the Marion County Courthouse will be arrayed in a dazzling display of Christmas lights now that the Marion County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to allow Experience Columbia to decorate the courthouse.

Members of the prosecution and defense teams discuss an issue regarding a potential juror with Circuit Court Judge Prentiss Harrell Monday afternoon. Due to the number of potential jurors needed for the case, Marion County Circuit Clerk Janette Nolan reached out to Columbia Academy to allow use of the Fine Arts Building so the court would be in compliance with coronavirus guidelines. Potential jurors were scattered throughout the facility.

Jury selection held at local school

It is not unusual for a trial to sometimes be held in another county, but for a Pearl River County case not only did it have to be moved to a different county, but a different location outside the courthouse.

Mississippi Lottery continues to grow

The Mississippi Lottery Corporation recently made its September transfer into the state treasury fund in the amount of $8,201,767.
The total amount transferred to the state in the current fiscal year (2021) is $26,508,657. The total amount transferred during fiscal year 2020, when the lottery first began, was $70,730,502.
