U.S. Air Corps/Air Force veteran and member of the American Legion Post 90 Ray Knight sits on one of the six benches that has been installed at Legion’s Plaza at Columbia City Park on Wednesday. Surrounding Knight are American Legion members, from left, Bill Harris, Steve Simmons, Ray Matthews and Ted Wilkes. Harris, a former commander of Post 90, Simmons, Matthews and Wilkes have been instrumental in the installation of the monument. Simmons oversaw the construction of the pavers, Wilkes handled the orders for the individual pavers and Matthews handled the financial aspect of the project. The installation of the Veterans’ Monument was done in celebration of the local post turning 100 years old. Incidentally, Knight will be turning 100 years old on Nov. 22. | Photo by Susan Amundson

Special hunt hosting fundraising banquet

Wednesday morning, a group of U.S. Marine Corps veterans gathered at Seeds Restaurant to celebrate the 246th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. Allow me to be blunt. Leave. Just leave. When something happens in Marion County, I see "That's Marion County for you" or "That's Columbia for you," all the time on social media. May I be blunt again to say that is something that rubs me the wrong way.
