Tornado lashes city and county

Early Saturday morning, storms came through Marion County, leaving a path of downed trees and power poles. One of the storms produced an EF-1 tornado that made its way through the county's western portion. An EF-1 tornado is capable of winds up to 105 mph.

Columbia Animal Control Center constantly improving

One of the buildings situated along Airport Road is the Columbia Animal Shelter. The shelter is a collaboration between Marion County that owns the building, and the City of Columbia through the Columbia Police Department, which staffs and runs the facility.

John Ford Home grand reopening

After more than a year of renovation work, the John Ford Home will have its grand re-opening from April 22 through April 25.

Members of the Leaf River Rangers and the Southern District Regulars living historians are hosting the events, including a pre-1840 encampment and re-enactment matches on Saturday, April 24.

Guilty verdict for Willis

Late Thursday afternoon a jury of 12 returned a verdict of guilty of murder in the first degree on Handy Anthony Willis Jr. in the shooting death of Tamaneka Alexander on Oct. 6, 2017. The jury deliberated less than 90 minutes before returning the verdict. Sentencing is set for May 14.
