No treats for suspects in Halloween arrests

The Columbia Police Department made two arrests on Halloween in two separate incidents. Melvin Leon Elvir-Martines, 32, of Columbia and James Newton, 55, of Columbia both had a Halloween that was not filled with treats.

Post 90 honors 130 veterans with custom pavers

CPD warns shoppers to be vigilant following credit card arrest

Aneesha Chantay Stanton, 23, of Columbia was arrested Oct. 24 and again on Nov. 2 by the Columbia Police Department after it was discovered that she had allegedly photographed the debit/credit cards of several customers while at work at a local gas station. Stanton then used the card information to shop online.

Wells enters guilty plea, sentenced to life

John Henry Wells, 45, entered a guilty plea Friday for two counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. The charges stemmed from Dec. 14, 2020, when Wells murdered his parents, James and Rebecca Wells, by shooting them several times in their home around 4:30 p.m. in Foxworth.
