Rankin wins yard of month

The November Yard of the Month has been awarded to Cheryl Rankin.

Rankin, who lives on Sumrall Road, has a beautiful, manicured yard. But that wasn’t the case two years ago when she moved back home. Her mother’s health had been failing so the yard wasn’t able to be kept up.

Church hosting smoke-off Saturday

Kiwanis sets date for Christmas parade

As Marion County rolls into the holidays, the Kiwanis Club of Columbia has set the date for the annual Christmas Parade.

This year the parade will fall on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. Applications for the parade are available at Citizens Bank on U.S. 98, Berry Law Firm, the Columbia-Marion County Library and The Columbian-Progress.

From serving in World War II to flying to islands in the Gulf of Mexico to skydiving at 90, he’s lived richly.

Porter celebrated turning 100-years-young on Saturday in a celebration at the MDR Hangar at the Columbia-Marion County Airport.
